WHO ARE WE?

Member of the Month

           Bill and Dee Moore

This month's members of the month are one of our favorite couples here at the Pocono Family YMCA; Bill and Dee Moore. Bill and Dee joined our Y family back in 2012 to help them lose weight. They both come to work out every morning Monday-Friday. Where can you find them? Either in Zumba class or downstairs in the fitness center talking with other members and/or the staff. When we asked them why they keep coming back their answer was simple: "The Y is their family". Bill and Dee keep up that great work and we enjoy seeing both of your smiling faces every morning.

WHO WILL BE NEXT?

STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH

            Valerie Cooper

Valerie is a NEPA native and the mother of 3 children: David, 23, Wendy, 20, and Daisy, 4. In her spare time she enjoys candle-making, walking/hiking, and writing.

Valerie joined the Member Services Team at the Pocono Family YMCA in May 2017. She has nearly 20 years of customer service experience, most of which was acquired working in a call center for an upscale, New York City resort. In her role as Member Services Associate, Valerie has learned an appreciation for providing face to face service and the sense of community that comes from serving a local membership base.

Board Member of the Month

            Martin A. Perdomo

Greetings Y! My name is Martin A. Perdomo and I am the Secretary of the Pocono Family YMCA Board of Directors. Today I would like to share with you what I see, feel and the impact the YMCA has in our community and what it means to me as a Board member.

My parents were both born in the Dominican Republic and then migrated to this wonderful country we live in, in 1978. I was graciously born and raised in New York City where I met and married my wife Annabel of 16 years. My wife and I have four children which we raised in East Stroudsburg and have lived in for the last 15 years. Three of our four children have graduated high school from East Stroudsburg Area School District. I am local business owner, owning a coaching and consulting firm and I am also a real estate investor.

My first encounter with a place like the YMCA in New York City was in a place called Alianza Dominicana which was a community center. I recall as a young man growing up in a drug infested neighborhood. Having drugs being dealt every day right in front of my doorstep. Having a place to go spend tiem in a positive environment is what kept me and many of my friends out of trouble, out of jail and alive. In a place like the YMCA I met individuals that gave me hope; they showed me by example that there is a way to a better life with effort, work, commitment and dedication. That place played an instrumental role in those young, formative years in my life, and at large has helped shape the man I have become today. It also helped that there was some cute girls I wanted to see when I went there after school.

You see, the reason I sit on your Board of Directors is because I want to be the voice of courage for those that can't. I want to love, help and connect with others in my community in a positive way  just the same way it was done with me some time ago. It is now my turn to help shape and influence another person's life in a positive manner. I want to encourage you today to have the courage to love  someone by doing a simple act of kindness. Be playful. Life is full of wonderful people and experiences and lastly do those things using God's gift, You, your intelligence. As a Board member I will keep that in sight  that the reason the Pocono Family YMCA is here to serve "You" our community! I look forward to seeing and hearing from many of you in our community. I think and feel the future of our YMCA and community is full of hope and progress. Going from where we are to where want to be. God Bless You!

Regards, Martin A. Perdomo

WELCOMING KELLY DALY

We are proud to have Kelly Daly as our Operations Director here at the Pocono Family YMCA. She brings leadership experience from the YMCA of the Rockies & Frost Valley YMCA, among other organizations. Living the YMCA mission is a natural part of how she lives her life from leading a Daisy Girl Scout Troop, to food drives and donations to animal shelters. Her enthusiasm for programming and serving our local community is unwavering as she settles into the Stroudsburg area with her family. She is overwhelmed with the sense of community among the members and the dedication of the staff.
