Exciting News: Construction is Officially Underway at the Pocono Family YMCA!
Dear YMCA Members and Community,
We are thrilled to announce that the Pocono Family YMCA has officially received all required permits and the Notice to Proceed for our transformational expansion and renovation project!
After years of planning, fundraising, partnerships, and preparation, construction is officially beginning. This once-in-a-generation investment in our community will create a modern YMCA that will serve families throughout the Pocono region for decades to come.
What to Expect
Construction will take place over approximately the next 18 months, with substantial completion anticipated by the end of 2027.
Phase One
Construction will begin with:
Our childcare center has temporarily relocated while renovations are completed. Once finished, the newly renovated childcare center will reopen.
Phase Two
Once the childcare center reopens, renovations will begin on the existing second floor of the YMCA. The second floor is being transformed into the YMCA’s permanent fitness center. During this phase, members will temporarily use only the existing second-floor space while construction of the second-floor expansion is underway.
Although the temporary fitness center will be smaller than our current facility, it will allow us to continue offering fitness services while the new addition is built.
Once the fitness center has relocated upstairs, demolition of the current fitness center and pool will begin. This will make way for the construction of the new universal locker rooms, aquatic center, elevator, expanded fitness center, welcoming new lobby, and the Jefferson Health center.
As construction progresses, the new addition will be connected to the existing second floor, creating the YMCA’s full, permanent fitness center.

Parking Changes
Throughout the duration of construction, the current YMCA member parking lot and the former Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot will be unavailable.
We have secured member parking approximately one block away on Ann Street, in the parking lot immediately to the left of the Ribbon Factory. The light pole is marked for YMCA parking.
For your convenience, a drive-through drop-off lane will remain available on the YMCA campus for childcare families, program participants, and anyone needing quick access to the building.
Staying Flexible Together
Keeping a YMCA open while transforming it into a brand-new facility is no small task. Throughout construction, our commitment is to remain open and operating at the highest capacity possible while maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
As construction progresses, there will be occasional changes to entrances, parking, program locations, schedules, and traffic flow. We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we work through each phase.
Stay Connected
The best way to stay informed is to:
While signs will be posted around the facility, email and social media will always provide the most current updates.
More Than Construction
While we’re building the future of the YMCA, we’re also committed to making the next 18 months engaging and fun for our members.
Watch for special events and new opportunities throughout construction, including:
  • Family Fun Nights
  • Member appreciation events
  • Pop-up fitness classes and wellness activities
  • Community celebrations
  • Groundbreaking festivities and construction milestone events
  • Special youth and family programming
We’ll continue looking for creative ways to bring our community together while we build a better YMCA for everyone.
Thank You
This project represents far more than a building expansion—it is an investment in the health, wellness, and future of our entire community. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our members, donors, partners, staff, volunteers, and community leaders.
Join Us for the Journey
Over the next 18 months, you’ll see remarkable changes taking place around the YMCA. We invite you to be part of every milestone- from demolition and groundbreaking to the day we cut the ribbon on our new home.
Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued support. Together, we’re building more than a facility, we’re building a stronger, healthier Pocono community for generations to come.

We are excited to share that our construction project continues to make great progress! The closing of our two major financial packages has been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in the project. We have also received the official go-ahead to move forward with construction. A pre-construction meeting is scheduled for this Friday, bringing together the project team to finalize the next steps before work begins. Following that meeting, Vericon Construction is expected to begin mobilizing equipment and preparing the site within the next couple of weeks.
Our construction journey officially kicked off with the Color the Countdown community celebration on June 27. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this exciting milestone and help launch this transformational project. As construction moves forward, we are also planning a demolition event and an official groundbreaking ceremony. Be sure to keep an eye on our website, social media, and member communications for upcoming dates and event details. We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue building the future of the Pocono Family YMCA. Thank you for your continued support!

After many years of planning, fundraising, and preparation, we’re excited to share that the
Pocono Family YMCA’s renovation and expansion project is entering its final phase before
construction officially begins.
Many of our members have been following this journey for years, and we know the timeline has
changed along the way. We appreciate your patience and support as we’ve worked through the
complex financing and approval process required for a project of this size.
The good news is that we are now very close to the finish line.
Over the past several months, our team has been working closely with lenders, USDA officials,
architects, engineers, attorneys, and construction professionals to complete the final steps
needed to move the project forward. Recently, the USDA approved the project’s construction
contract, and final closing documents are expected to be completed shortly.
In another major milestone, the required utility work at the site has been completed, helping
clear the way for construction activities to begin.
Vericon Construction, our construction manager, has already started procuring materials and is
expected to begin moving equipment on-site in July.
We understand that many members have been eagerly awaiting these improvements. This
project represents a significant investment in the future of the YMCA and will allow us to better
serve children, families, seniors, and the entire community for generations to come.
We remain committed to keeping our members informed throughout the process. We encourage
you to attend our monthly Coffee Chats in the lobby, where YMCA staff provide project updates
and answer questions. We also invite you to join us for upcoming construction kickoff
celebrations, including Color the Countdown on June 27.
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and belief in the YMCA’s mission. We
are excited to take this next step together and look forward to sharing more updates as
construction gets underway.
